Living Lambeth

Theophilous Alade

Living Lambeth is a photography exhibition at the Brixton Rec, commissioned by The Brixton Project to celebrate Windrush Day 2022.

Working with us, young photographer Qumia Grant aimed to capture iconic people and places, finding the balance between the old and the new. What resulted is an amazing group of images that encompass the essence of Lambeth’s rich and diverse cultural history.

‘I’ve always been interested in the arts and looking at life through a lens. I originally wanted to be an actress but unintentionally ended up in a photography/videography class and immediately loved it. I thoroughly enjoy documenting my travels as well as taking pictures of people and places. Honestly, I don’t know if photography will be a part of my future but I’d like to hope it stays with me through the years.

The exhibition is a mixture of key characters from Lambeth as well as a mini series of recreations of archive pictures generously donated by Getty Images.

The exhibition is outside the Brixton Recreation Centre, 27 Brixton Station Rd, London SW9 8QQ from 17 June 2022.
